Ali Smith

Ali Smith was born in Inverness, Scotland in 1962. She debuted in 1995 with the award-winning collection of short stories Free Love and Other Stories, her novel Like followed in 1997. She has been a finalist for the Booker Prize and the Orange Prize three times and was awarded the Whitbread Prize for the novel Live Pictures in 2005. How to be both was published in 2014 and won her the Baileys Women's Prize for Fiction (formerly the Orange Prize), the Goldsmiths Prize and the Costa Novel Award. 'Summer' (2021) is the fourth and final volume in the intelligent and witty novel quartet 'Autumn', 'Winter', 'Spring' and 'Summer', establishing her as one of the UK's most important authors.
