Today, Lea Ypi is a professor of political theory at the London School of Economics, but she grew up in Albania in the 1990s. There, she experienced the collapse of communism and the subsequent social unrest. In her memoir Free, which has become an international bestseller, she describes her own personal experience of the change in regime: everything she held to be true was suddenly a lie. For the young Lea, it was harrowing. Hear Lea’s conversation with a culture journalist Karin Haugen about how this shaped her as a person and thinker.
