The authors Junot Diaz (DO / US) and Masha Gessen (RU / US) share the common bond of having backgrounds in countries that are currently being ruled by a form of despotism or dictatorship. Gessen is an active and sharp critic of Vladimir Putin. As an immigrant from the Dominican Republic, an autocratic state at this time, Diaz has seen the United States from the bottom up, as he himself says. These two are both now based in a USA that is increasingly drawn to the populist right. This will be a conversation between two of the most important writers of our time. The authors are introduced by Aleksandar Hemon (BA / US).
