THE POSSIBILITIES OF FOLKLORE

In works such as Queen Pokou, Véronique Tadjo from Côte d'Ivoire uses an ancient myth to write about the bloody ethnic wars in West Africa and the slave trade at the turn of the last century. In her novel Strange Beasts of China, Chinese Yan Ge has written about mythological animals to discuss humanism, a narrative that can be found in classical Chinese literature. Listen as the two authors discuss what extra dimensions the myths add to the narrative.
