UKRAINE, HISTORY AND THE WAR

The war in Ukraine has shaken the whole world. How should we understand the origins of the war and the historical relationship between Ukraine and Russia?

Serhiy Plokhij is considered one of the world's foremost experts on Ukraine. Plokhij himself is of Ukrainian origin and grew up in the USSR. Today he works as a professor of Ukrainian history at Harvard University and director of the Harvard Ukrainian Research Institute. He has written several books on Ukrainian politics, history, and society, including The Gates of Europe: A History of Ukraine (2015), Ukraine′s Maidan, Russia′s War (2021) and The Frontline: Essays on Ukraine's Past and Present (2021).

The choir FolkeMelodi will sing Ukrainian folk songs.

The evening's host and conversation leader is Christian Kjelstrup, editor of Samtiden.
