Ali Smith was born in Inverness and lives in Cambridge. She is one of Britain’s leading writers and has published numerous books across a wide range of genres. Smith has been shortlisted for the Man Booker Prize four times and twice for the Baileys Women’s Prize for Fiction, which she won in 2015 for the novel How to Be Both. The novel also won the Goldsmiths Prize and the Costa Book Award. Summer, the final part of Smith’s quartet about our times (2016–2020), earned her the Orwell Prize for Political Fiction in 2021. The following year, Ali Smith was awarded the Austrian State Prize for European Literature for her body of work. Her books have been translated into more than 40 languages.
