HARUKI MURAKAMI

Haruki Murakami is one of the most renowned and popular authors of our time. He was born in Kyoto, Japan, in 1949 and studied theatre arts at Waseda University. Before his breakthrough as a writer, he ran the jazz bar Peter Cat in Tokyo. He has translated numerous modern American authors into Japanese, including F. Scott Fitzgerald, Truman Capote, Raymond Carver, Raymond Chandler, John Irving, and J.D. Salinger. Murakami has won several prestigious literary awards, including the Franz Kafka Prize and the highly esteemed Frank O’Connor International Short Story Award. In 2016, he was awarded the Hans Christian Andersen Prize. His books have been translated into over 50 languages.
