Helene Uri (b. 1964) is an active writer and a critically acclaimed, award-winning, and prolific author. She writes for both adults and children and publishes books across multiple genres. Additionally, she holds a doctorate in linguistics and is a professor at both Kristiania University College and the Norwegian Institute for Children's Books. Moreover, she has an extensive list of scientific publications, various engagements, assignments, and positions. In 2018, she took over as Aftenposten's language columnist after Per Egil Hegge, and since 2020, she has hosted the podcast Språktalk together with Aftenposten journalist Kristin Storrusten.
Helene Uri made her debut in 1995 with the young adult novel Anna på fredag (Anna on Friday). Since then, she hasn’t stopped writing. Several of her books have been rewarded with prestigious awards. In 1998, she received the Norwegian Ministry of Culture's children's book prize for the non-fiction book Den store faktaboka om språk (The Big Fact Book about Language), and in 2018, she was awarded the Brage Prize for non-fiction for Hvem sa hva? (Who Said What?). The following year, she received the Norwegian Language Society's children's and young adult book prize for the young adult novel Stillheten etterpå (The Silence Afterwards). She has also co-authored books with other writers. She has made a significant contribution as a knowledgeable disseminator of language and language understanding, well-suited and adapted for various target groups. Her books have been translated into more than twenty languages. This spring, she is releasing Skjulte mønster (Hidden Patterns).
