SOFI OKSANEN

Sofi Oksanen (b. 1977) is considered one of the foremost contemporary Finnish authors. She made her literary debut in 2003 with the novel Stalin’s Cows, which was nominated for the Runeberg Prize. Her international breakthrough came with Purge (2008, published in Norwegian in 2010), which won the Nordic Council Literature Prize. In 2013, she was awarded the Swedish Academy's Nordic Prize for her body of work, and that same year, Finland’s largest newspaper, Helsingin Sanomat, named Purge the best Finnish novel of the 2000s. In 2019, Oksanen was appointed to the Ordre des Arts et des Lettres for her significant contribution to European literature. Sofi Oksanen’s books are published in more than 40 countries.
