Weronika Murek

Weronika Murek (born 1989) is a prose writer and playwright, and a graduate of the Faculty of Law and Administration at the University of Silesia. For her book Cultivating Southern Plants the Michurin Method, she was nominated in 2015 for the Polityka Passport Award in the literature category, and in 2016 for both the Nike Literary Award and the Gdynia Literary Prize. In 2016, she received the Witold Gombrowicz Literary Award for the same book.

Her theatrical work was also recognised at an early stage. In 2015, she won the Gdynia Drama Award for her play Feinweinblein, and four years later she was again nominated for the Polityka Passport Award for a volume of plays under the same title. For her third book, Girls: A Few Essays on Becoming, she received a nomination for the Gdynia Literary Prize.

In 2025, her novel Birthday was published. In the same year, she was nominated for the Julian Tuwim Award, granted for lifetime achievement.
