BJØRNSON LECTURE: SOFI OKSANEN: TO STEAL A COUNTRY’S FUTURE

Russia has been deporting tens of thousands of Ukrainian children since 2014. Only a few of them have been reunited with their Ukrainian families. Deporting children is a war crime, and yet this on-going action doesn’t seem to be part of the peace talks. Why? What’s the purpose of deporting Ukrainian children and why do we hear so little of them?

This year’s Bjørnson Prize winner is the internationally acclaimed Finnish-Estonian author, playwright, and social commentator Sofi Oksanen. She has been awarded the prize for her groundbreaking authorship and strong commitment to freedom of expression and human rights.
