Colm Tóibín (b. 1955) originally started as a journalist, serving as the editor of the news magazine Magill from 1982 to 1985.
He has written several novels and short stories, as well as a play. He has also authored multiple non-fiction books and travel books.
Tóibín is a visiting professor at several universities, including Stanford.
He has been nominated for and has won several awards. He won the IMPAC Prize and was nominated for the Booker Prize for The Master. He was also nominated for the Booker Prize for both The Blackwater Lightship and Brooklyn, and he won the 2009 Costa Prize for Brooklyn.
