Music has always played a significant role in the life of Japanese author Haruki Murakami. Before making his breakthrough as a writer, he and his wife Yoko ran a jazz bar in Tokyo. Murakami has eclectic taste in music, but he believes that it is primarily jazz’s sense of rhythm and rhythmic shifts that have influenced his writing.
In Lillehammer, Murakami will share insights about himself and his creative process through a selection of musical pieces that have been particularly meaningful to him. These pieces will be interpreted on stage by renowned Norwegian jazz pianist Bugge Wesseltoft.
