PETER FRANKOPAN

Peter Frankopan is Professor of Global History at Oxford University, where he also heads the Centre for Byzantine Research. Frankopan's work focuses particularly on the histories of the Mediterranean, Russia, the Middle East, Central Asia, China and beyond. He is a regular contributor to the press, and advises governments and multi-lateral organisations around the world, including several UN agencies, the World Bank and the Asian Development Bank.

Frankopan's critically acclaimed work The Silk Roads: A New History of the World was a bestseller around the world. It was named as one of the 25 most important books translated into Chinese over the last 40 years, along with The Great Gatsby and Pride and Prejudice. Daily Telegraph History Book of the Year, it stayed in the Sunday Times Top 10 Bestseller list for nine months and was named as a Sunday Times Book of the Decade (2010-20). The Earth Transformed: An Untold History has been a major bestseller in the UK, Australia, Netherlands, Canada, India, Indonesia and Germany since it came out in 2023. ‘Humanity has transformed the Earth,’ said the Financial Times about the book; ‘Frankopan transforms our understanding of history.’

Peter has been described as a rockstar historian by the BBC, New Statesman, La Repubblica, Der Spiegel, Helsingin Sanomat and more. Brazil’s DCM magazine has called him ‘the first great historian of the 21st century.’
