Auður Ava Ólafsdóttir (b. 1958) is one of Iceland's most well-known and popular authors, and her books have been published in many countries. She holds a degree in art history from Sorbonne University in Paris. Ólafsdóttir achieved international recognition with Stiklingen (The Greenhouse), which was nominated for the Nordic Council Literature Prize in 2009 and became a reader favorite in countries like France, with 300,000 copies sold. Her second novel, Regn i november (Butterflies in November), was first published in Norwegian in 2015. In 2018, the novel Arr (Miss Iceland) earned Ólafsdóttir the Nordic Council Literature Prize for that year, as well as the Icelandic Literary Prize in 2016. For Frøken Island (Miss Iceland), she was awarded the Prix Médicis étranger in 2019. Svaner blir ikke skilt (Swans Don't Get Divorced) is the author's sixth book translated into Norwegian.
