SIDSEL ANA WELDEN GAJARDO

Danish writer Sidsel Ana Welden is one of the two recipients of this year's Grimsrud Scholarship. With her debut novel I det hvilløse (In the Restless) from 2021, Welden strikes a personal tone in her writing. Another thread that her debut sets in motion is the confrontation with stigmatization, especially concerning mental illness, but also in relation to ethnic minorities and other vulnerable individuals. Mental illness is also one of the main themes in Du er min arv (You Are My Heritage) from 2023, where life as a refugee and ethnic Danes also take center stage. Although Gajardo's books have a political nerve that demands a reckoning with the concept of normality, they are also sensory, poetic, and fabulous stories that move the reader.
