Public meeting on Freedom of Expression

Renowned musicians, writers, and leading public voices of international standing take the stage as we invite the public to a forum on freedom of expression in Lillehammer. Freedom of expression has long been under pressure, and with the current geopolitical situation‚ it is threatened in new and acute ways. In early June, the World Expression Forum (WEXFO) takes place alongside the Norwegian Festival of Literature. During this time, freedom of expression will be exercised, discussed, and critically examined, and socially relevant questions that engage both young and old, locally and internationally, will be put on the agenda. Joining us on stage is the winner of the national writing competition “The Youth’s Public Address”, along with other key guests from WEXFO and the Norwegian Festival of Literature. Music i Innlandet presents a concert lecture by multi-instrumentalist Kenneth Lien, Music on the Move, offering insights into the Norwegian folk music heritage — and perhaps revealing expressions that might be called universal; content that gives music its power and value, but also can make it dangerous. Instruments and melodies we consider part of our Norwegian cultural heritage and national identity often carry with them a much longer journey. A journey from valley to valley across mountains and forests, but also across regions, over national borders, and between continents. Join us and support the fight for freedom of expression in Norway and internationally!
