FESTIVAL FILM: RU

After a perilous journey across the sea and a stay in a refugee camp in Malaysia, a young Vietnamese girl named Tinh and her family are welcomed as refugees in Canada. They arrive in Montreal, where they start a new life. However, for the shy and reserved Tinh, it isn’t easy to learn a new language and adapt to the new environment. Tinh must exert herself to find the strength needed to cope with her new life and find happiness in the new country. The film screening will open with a brief conversation with author Kim Thúy, who wrote the novel Ru on which the film is based.
