Tahmasbi Khorasani is a poet, author, and researcher from Balkh, in ancient Khorasan (present-day Afghanistan). Writing in the cultural lineage of figures such as Zoroaster, Rumi, and Abu Ali Sina Balkhi, he works to revive the historical and literary heritage of the region.
Since beginning his literary career in 2006, Khorasani has become an influential voice in Afghanistan’s cultural sphere. He has received more than ten awards, including prizes from the Az Naistan Literary Festival (Balkh, 2018), the Parsi Sugar Festival (London, 2019), and the Yaqub Laith International Festival (Balochistan, 2024). He has also been honoured at events in Kabul, Tehran, and Delhi.
Khorasani is the author of six books published in Afghanistan, Iran, and India, including the poetry collections Gâhân (2014), Hamsâya-e-Khodâyân (2019), and Bi Jehat Nistam Khorasan (2021), as well as a research study on the Ghaznavids (2022). His work explores antiquity, identity, love, and resistance to tyranny and religious extremism.
Because of his focus on Zoroastrian and ancient Iranian heritage, he faced threats from the Taliban, culminating in a 2020 war that forced him into exile. In August 2025, he arrived in Stavanger, Norway, as an ICORN writer-in-residence.
